We're going to Hollywood !

Day 2 of my weekend to California!

The morning of day 2 Nicole and I made reservations for a day tour of Los Angeles. We wanted to see as much as possible while we were there since this was our first visit to LA. ( I was there in 1976 but don't remember much - i was 5! )
So we booked a tour with Starline tours and off we went!

by noon we were standing in front of the Chinese Theatre just admiring all those that were there before us. Tons of great names, and i was lucky enough to step on George Clooney's footsteps.. ( insert drool icon here! ) Adam Sandler, Jennifer Aniston, and so many more.. it's really a great place - and also the Hollywood walk of fame .. so cool. It's like miles long with tons of stars and famous names.

We then hopped on a bus with this poor old guy .. he must have been in his late 70's giving us a tour of LA. he was really smart and knew so much about life in LA but man so many times he'd forget what he was talking about and didn't finish his sentence.. regarless we had a good time and learned a lot.

Here is an overview of the different sights :

Chinese Theatre Chinese Theater:  Famous for its nearly 200 cement handprints and footprints of movie stars in its forecourt, the spectacular theatre itself is the number one movie premiere house in the world.

The Dolby Theatre:  It is the crown jewel of Hollywood & Highland, a magnificent retail, dining and entertainment complex. The 3,400 seat theatre opened in November 2001 is the first permanent home of the Academy Awards.

The Walk of Fame:  The most visited attraction in Hollywood with around 2,400 pink terrazzo stars inlaid with the names of famous TV, Movie, Recording, Live Theatre and Radio Stars, spanning several blocks on Hollywood Blvd.

Hollywood Sign:  Hollywood's ultimate icon. It was built in 1923 and is considered a national monument.

Hollywood Sign

Hollywood Bowl:  It is the world famous summer home of the LA Philharmonic Orchestra. The outdoor 18,000 seat natural amphitheatre has hosted many of the world's most famous musicians, including The Beatles, Cher and Ella Fitzgerald.

Farmer's Market/Grove:  The original "Farmer's Market", founded in 1934 is the largest open air market in Los Angeles, with more than 140 shops, restaurants, markets and cafes. The newer Grove has over 60 fashion stores, set in an outdoor, Disneyland style center connected with the 'Farmers Market' by a double-deck, open-top trolley car. -- WE HAD LUNCH HERE!

Miracle Mile:  Stretching over several blocks on Wilshire Blvd, it is the first commercial district in the US developed around the automobile. It is also the current home to many Los Angeles museums.

La Brea Tar Pits
La Brea Tar Pits:  This is one of the world's most famous fossil localities, recognized for having the largest and most diverse assemblage of extinct Ice Age plants and animals in the world, all recovered from the asphalt deposits of the Tar Pits.

LA County Museum Art:  LACMA is the largest encyclopedic art museum west of Chicago - with artwork covering the expanse of art history - from ancient to contemporary - across the globe.

Melrose Ave:  Melrose Ave is a street which defines hip shopping in Los Angeles. Many of the styles on the TV show "Friends" came from the shops on Melrose Ave. The storefronts can often be works of pop art in themselves.

CBS Television:  Built in 1952, this is where many of the nation's favorite television programs are taped, including "Dancing with the Stars", "American Idol" heats and the classic game show "The Price is Right".

Paramount Studios Paramount Studios:  Paramount Studios is the last major studio still located in Hollywood itself where movies and TV shows are still made to this day.

Sunset Strip:  Sunset Strip is famous for its glittery nightlife with glamorous hotels, clubs and restaurants.

DOWNTOWN LA

Olvera Street:  This is part of the Pueblo which is considered the birthplace of Los Angeles. This area takes you back to the time this was a Mexican/Spanish settlement and is the location of Avila Adobe - the oldest surviving homes in LA dating back to 1818.

Chinatown:  Chinatown was built in the 1930's as part of America's 1st modern Chinatown - actually owned and planned by the Chinese as a major tourist attraction.

Staples Center:  Home to many sports teams, including the World-Champion Los Angeles Lakers, it has also hosted the Democratic National Convention and countless rock concerts.

LA Live/Nokia:  LA Live, a 2 billion dollar entertainment complex that takes up 6 city blocks. Already the Nokia theatre has hosted the American Idol Finale and has become the permanent home of the Emmy Awards.

Walt Disney Hall:  This spectacular concert hall, with its massive steel curves was designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry who is considered a modern day icon.

Walt Disney Hall

Our Lady Cathedral:  The Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels, built in 2002, was designed by world-renowned Spanish architect, Jose Rafael Moneo as a modern reinterpretation of the California Mission.
and we finished off the night at Disneyland!

On our way home we were sitting in the plane a bit disappointed that we didn't get to see any celebrities... about 5 minutes before take off -- Hugh Darcy and Claire Danes come inside to sit in business class and they had their new born baby with them... so precious! Hugh came in the economy class cabin a few times to change the baby and Claire stayed up front.. probably resting from her previous BIG NIGHT ... winning a GOLDEN GLOBE for HOMELAND! we were excited!!!

what an adventurous 2 days!

Project Life - Up to Jan 14

It's my first year designing a Project Life Album. I'm really looking forward to it and quite enjoying the process. I'm actually thinking of going back to 2012 and starting an album of its own.

My process isn't detailed, it isn't documenting every single day, it's not being pressured into completing or falling behind. it's more of just documenting what i feel is important. I will document the good, the bad and the ugly... that's life right? but I am not going to pressure myself in documenting by weeks.. but more by a bulk of days.

Here is what i did for this first batch of pages..

My Cover --
Shows hubby and I, our location in New Brunswick, our home, and our kitty!

My First Week is December 30- January 5th 2013
we got a major snow storm this week, I took my paint supplies and created a few she girls, I also prepared for Project Life, got a new printer and on the weekend I took my niece to a clay cafe to paint some pieces for her mom and dad.

The Following week I did go to LAX with a friend and thought that's what i want to document this week -- January 11-14
We flew to LAX, went to CHA, then on Sunday got a full day tour of Los Angeles.
I have a few more pictures i'd like to include in this spread so i'll add some 4x4 instagram pics in another photo sleeve.

That's my PL for this week. Seriously, if you haven't started this yet... what a process! It's sooo much fun and i love going back and looking at what we did, and so much more. It was really awesome chatting with Ali Edwards about her project life and how she LOVES this documenting procress... certainly got me motivated.
It's also a great way to use up all those diecuts you've been collecting over the years!

I do participate in the Studio Calico Project Life Kit - but not because I have to. I have gotten tons of FREE stuff online, and also purchased a few from Digital Scrapbook Stores and from Findingnana, Evalicious, In a Creative Bubble, and Hello Forever.

If you'd like to start - get yourself an album 12x12 and some photo sleeves.
You can find more info about this from Becky Higgins by CLICKING HERE!

Thanks for dropping by today!

CHA 2013

where do i start!?

well, thursday afternoon i managed to shift trade a few days off of work and out of the blue i sent a txt message to Nicole knowing she also had the weekend off and a few days there after. I only txt her ... WANNA GO TO CHA?! and the reply i got was FOR REAL!? .. and i said yes!  that's all it took - we started planning hotels, flights, and how we would get in to CHA. A little Hyper ? I think so!

thanks to a few friends we managed to get passes for the CHA SHOW, I made our standby reservations for Friday  morning.. with a bit of a long journey for me, but well worth it!  I had to leave in the early morning to go pick up Nicole in Winnipeg, then we were off to LAX!

We got to LA at about 630pm and then a 40 min shuttle to Anaheim. We were certainly glad to enter our hotel, but wowzers it was cold in CALIFORNIA!

The next morning, we got ready, as excited as could be to head off to CHA just a few blocks away from our hotel. We printed our passes and we were IN!

A little gasp of OH MY GOD came out of my mouth, in total awe of the gazillion of products to be seen. I noticed a few passerbys .. celine navarro, was the first person i saw in the building. Of course I'm too shy to introduce myself ... so that opportunity was missed, but regardless I was still excited.

Nicole and I were then off to visit the Jillibean Booth to say hi to Jill, & Kimber and were welcomed by Summer Fullerton, and Laina Lamb. What a great group of gals!
Before I left New Brunswick Kimber had sent me a message to bring one of my favorite Jillibean Layouts -- OMG i almost fell off the floor! how exciting ... to have a layout posted in a booth at CHA.. so voila...  ;-D

Nicole and I then started off on our CHA visit to see tons of booths, people doing make n' takes - and we browsed our favorite manufacturers booth and in total awe of how awesome it was.

So many great products will be coming on shelves in the next few months, I can say that Cameras and Feathers are popular, as well as Project Life products, and what great collections coming from Jillibean Soup , Lilybee Designs, Simple Stories, Heidi Swapp and really i could go on and on...

you can click here for more pics of products, i didn't take that many ... i was too busy browsing and watching people!

Here are a few pictures of the show...

what an honor to meet Ali Edwards in person, she really is genuine and great to talk to!  Tim Holtz was BUSY man that guy is popular with the ladies. His booth was always full and was at his booth the entire day/weekend.. Stephanie Hunt from bella blvd is adorable and so is her team of designers. Kimber and Jill from Jillibean Soup couldn't be nicer ladies, great to talk to and friendly personalities! (Thanks JILL & Kimber XOX ) If you wish to support a company in the scrapbook industry I would certainly say add Jillibean to your list ;-) They are coming out with new diecut shapes, new stickers shapes and oh the little corrugated ladies and gentlemen.. adorable!

 Take a peek --

that's my cha review for you today. I'm getting sick with a cold and my nose couldn't be any stuffier! YUCK...

I'll have another post on our Los Angeles Adventure for our Day 2 of CALIFORNIA!

Getting my Hands Dirty

Good Morning!

The past week i've been enjoying the Mixed Media aspect of Creativity and certainly getting my hands dirty! Our kitchen table has been taken over by paints, paint brushes and a few canvas'.

This is a girl i created with a little of me in mind. She has darker hair but her body pretty much looks like mine.. short and " Big Boned!". I love the colors Yellow, Blues and Greens lately and wanted to use up some of my Studio Calico papers. So this little lady was created... Sized 10x10" Titled Imagine ...

This is another set of 2 I created. These are Mugs / or Coffee Cups. I wanted something brown and thought of maybe putting these up somewhere in my kitchen area.
these measure8x8" and not titled..

That's where my creative juices have been for the past week or so.I hope you had an enjoyable New Years Day.. Hubby and I were lazy in our jammies all day! It was fabulous ;-)

Talk Soon!

Jumping In to Project Life 2013

Good Morning and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

It's time to get organized at here at KristineDavidson.com. and prepare for a new year, A Clean Slate, a new beginning, a different attitude?.. or all of the above?!

my One Little Word for 2013
is going to be ...

I was shoveling snow last week... and i was actually enjoying it. My hair was drenches and had icicles forming at the end, the snow was just falling and no sign of stopage.. so really i was wasting my time shoveling.. but it was great to have an hour in the fresh air to think. I was debating on a few words and what i wanted my 2013 to be about. My 2012 was pretty amazing --- one of my best years i think and i really want to take that again to 2013.

2013 will be about CHOICES. Right or Wrong, they will be choices that i make and some i refuse. I have a list of things that my little brain is brewing and i need to make a CHOICE to follow thru or simple just ... let it go.

In 2013, I've made a choice to scrapbook about me!  I've been scrapping since 2006 and decided this year it's time to start Project Life. I kind of regret not doing 2012 but so happy I took the time to take a picture a day ( as seen in my previous post ) I can go back and perhaps start a Mini Book of 2012.

Project Life is being planned out here and i'm looking forward to it. I've set up my little tray with stuff i'll be using -- of course i'll be adding a few more with the Studio Calico Project Life kits, and some misc purchases of embellies. This is what i have set up so far...

I have some wonderful printables from Evalicious, Marcy Penner, FindingNana, BananaFish Studios and so much more... can't wait to dig in!
I purchased products from Scrapbookers Inner Circle.com - the shipping is a bit high although the items are a bit heavy.. but if you are local (NB) and would like to place an order.. let me know and we perhaps split shipping charges!

My page protectors are patiently waiting for me at the Post Office and I've selected a Brown AC Album - 12x12 and this format of Photo Protectors - BECKY HIGGINS Design A -

So... here is to 2013!
Wishing you lots of happiness, heatlh and new beginnings!
